What to Look for in a High-Fibre Snack Bar

Plenty of bars are marketed as high in fibre. Not many actually are. Here's what to check before you buy.

The short answer

A bar can call itself high in fibre while providing very little of it. Look past the front-of-pack claim and check two things:

  • Grams of fibre per bar, not per 100g. A bar that looks impressive per 100g can still be light in a single serving.
  • What the fibre actually is. Some bars use bulking agents that add very little for your gut bacteria.
  • 90% of UK adults don't get enough fibre day to day, so a snack that's genuinely closing that gap is worth more than one that just claims to.

The claim vs. the nutrition panel

Any bar can put "high fibre" on the front of the pack. What matters is the number on the back: grams of fibre per bar, not per 100g, and where that fibre actually comes from. Some bars pad their fibre count with ingredients that add bulk but don't do much for your gut bacteria.

What we build ours around

Each of our bars carries at least 12g of natural plant-based fibre, providing 40% of your daily target in one snack, with no artificial sweeteners or colours. See the bars in Apple & Cinnamon or Peanut Butter & Chocolate.

Marketed as high fibre

Light on substance

Often means a few grams per bar, or fibre types that add bulk without doing much for your gut bacteria.

Actually high fibre

12g+ per bar

A meaningful fibre count, from sources your gut bacteria can use, not just filler.

The label says 'high fibre.' The nutrition panel says what that actually means. Check both.

A high-fibre label doesn't always mean a high-fibre bar. Check the grams per bar, not just the claim.
