Why We Test the Blend, Not Just the Ingredients

Plenty of products cite studies about individual ingredients. We test our actual blends, in our own studies, because a mix of fibres doesn't always behave like the sum of its parts.

The short answer

A lot of supplement claims are borrowed: a study on inulin, a study on psyllium, applied to a product that contains neither in the same amount or combination. Two things separate a more rigorous approach:

  • Testing the finished blend, not just quoting research on a single ingredient inside it
  • Combining multiple fibres, because different bacterial species specialise in fermenting different fibre types

Why blend-level testing matters

Most fibre products point to research on their ingredients: a study on inulin here, a paper on resistant starch there. That research is real, but it's rarely conducted on the actual blend being sold, in the ratios it's sold in. Combining fibres changes how they ferment together, so ingredient-level evidence doesn't automatically transfer to a finished blend.

We build our approach on published microbiome research, and go further by running our own studies on our actual products, rather than only citing findings from other people's ingredient trials.

One fibre or several?

The same logic applies to blending. Bacteria are specialists: the species that ferment inulin aren't the ones that ferment resistant starch or PHGG. A single-fibre product feeds one group well.
